Big Data Demo using live twitter data and the Oracle Big Data Appliance

During the past few weeks, I have managed to play around with the Oracle Big Data Appliance (BDA) and have found some very interesting results.

To really test the Oracle BDA, I gathered around 7 days worth of Twitter data for numerous airlines (using airline twitter handles and hashtags related to them) and loaded this into the Oracle BDA. This enabled me to test some Hadoop features (MapReduce and Hadoop Distributed File System) and complete some basic positive / negative sentiment analysis.

In short, I collected and loaded the data into the Oracle BDA, I was then able complete the MapReduce process and then load into an Oracle Database to perform some positive and negative sentiment analysis with some interesting results :-)
